Oregon Hop Crop Is Short In Marion County
The Oregon hop crop in Marion county is severely reduced this year with farmers reporting sharp declines in yields. Jake Miller’s ten acre yard dropped from 800 boxes to 217. Bushey on 18 acres fell from 1000 boxes to 700. Johnson declined from 1000 on 10 acres to 500. Mould appears widespread as foggy nights and warm days injure thousands of boxes. Mt Angel picking has begun under poor conditions, with one 18 acre yard abandoned due to mould and red spider.
