Wesley Stevens used his car to chase down two men after his dog was shot. He stopped the suspects about two miles north of town and found a gun on one man. The assailants confessed after Stevens confronted them and searched their vehicle.

Two Alley trotters falter at state fair races in Salem
Frank F Alley’s trotting horses fared poorly at the state fair in Salem Tuesday. Stalone, a brown mare, finished well back in the 2:15 trot for a $1,000 purse, while Phyllis Wynn, a bay mare, placed third in the 2:25 three year old trot. Yankee Doodle, the running horse, was second in the 6 1-2 furlongs dash timed at 1:19. Sublimity is largely deserted as hop picking begins.
