Hinefield, West Virginia, October 5. Seven more bodies were recovered from the Pocahontas mine today, with about ten more visible amid debris. Total known dead rises to twenty five, with estimates varying between six and seventy deaths overall as rescue efforts slow.

Cougar Destroyed After Dramatic 2.5 Hour Hunt

J B Young of Ball Creek and three Hazel Dell men tracked a large cougar in Pine Openings prairie. After rocks and a dropped boulder failed to kill it, the animal leaped a canyon and then returned to a tree where, weakened by pelting, it was finally dispatched. The cougar measured six feet seven and a half inches tip to tip.
