Near million dollar land claim pits company and Indians

The Booth Kelly Lumber Company stands to gain about 900000 from the government to buy alternate sections of the Klamath Indian reservation lands. The state claims swamp land rights to about 90000 acres, while the company cites a prior grant. A three cornered fight is expected as the interior department weighs a possible award and compensation via a wagon road pledge, with 1000 Indians living on the land under a treaty. If no compensation is granted, the company warns it will act against the Indians, a move seen as grave given 35 years of occupancy.
