Peary Awarded Gold Medal By National Geographic Society

Washington Nov. 3 Commander Peary was awarded the medals by the National Geographic Society after the board reviewed records and confirmed his claim of reaching the North Pole. The society will reconsider the Cook claim and may dispatch experts to inspect original papers. A medal was also awarded to Captain A Bartlett for his seamanship during the Peary Arctic expedition.
