Naked eye may see comet on April 8 in 1930
San Jose reports Halley’s comet may be visible to the naked eye just before dawn on April 8 or shortly after. W. W. Campbell of Mount Hamilton’s Idek Observatory says the head and perhaps a bit of the tail could be seen. May 18 may bring earth between sun and comet, with tail highly attenuated. Observing from California is difficult as the sun nears the horizon, so Hawaii, Australia, and Asia will have better vantage as astronomers prepare photographic work on Oahu.
