Steps Toward Reorganization of Railroads
Washington on March 12 reports the house committee on interstate commerce adopted a radical amendment to the administration rail road bill. It requires valuation of railroad properties by the interstate commerce commission before merging or reorganizing carriers. The change targets consolidations like the Harriman merger of Union and Southern Pacific. The amendment allows issuing stocks or bonds up to par value of combined properties and seeks to end stock watering.

Bitter attack on Glavis marks Alaska claim inquiry
Cleveland March 11 United States Commissioner W J McGee presided as Clarence Cunningham testified in the Cunningham claims inquiry. He charged Louis R Glavis with trapping people into signing an affidavit under false pretenses and with feigning a desire to clear Cunningham entries for patent while aiming to have them declared fraudulent. Cunningham said the affidavit was dictated by Glavis who induced him to sign it to secure patents. He also said Glavis claimed the claims were sound and would push them through the land office.
