Chittum Claims In Demand Across Canyon Claims
A Greenleaf Lane correspondent reports Chittum claims are sought after not for timber but as peeling bark. Many homesteads sit near canyons feeding Chickahominy creek where claim squatters peel bark with knives and dry it in cabins. One man sold 1600 pounds of bark to Eugene at nine cents per pound, though peeling wastes inner bark reducing quality.
