Topeka Flood Drives Thousands From Homes
About seven thousand residents in North Topeka fled as the Kaw River flood surged. The flood crest reached Topeka at 3 A.M. and caused a three hour railroad disruption. Most evacuees found shelter in Topeka proper with schools and auditoriums opened, and while no lives were lost there was heavy property damage.
