Big Timber Deal at Cottage Grove
Cottage Grove July 16 One of the largest timber deals in this Oregon section occurred yesterday when A Woodard transferred to J H Chambers 20,000,000 feet of fir timber located five miles from the town, with a sawmill capacity of 40,000 feet daily, and thirty three acres of timber land for about $50,000. Chambers will start logging at once and continue a large operation. Water rights on the Coast Fork river are arranged to avoid sluicing during conveyance to the mill. Woodard recently built a dam and logging road, enabling efficient timber handling. The mill site is valuable for power and as a potential railroad terminus, likely to be built soon, opening timber lands and aiding nearby industries like Black Butte mines and London Mineral Springs. Woodard retains over 30,000,000 feet of timber south of Cottage Grove and has extensive Kiamath county interests.
