In Avery Idaho on Ave 24 the bodies of twenty forest service workers were recovered within a mile by a search party led by Deputy Sheriffs Sullivan and Basset. Officials fear additional fatalities may be discovered as searches continue.
Wallace Montana Aug 24 John L Baylor owner who arrived here today says Saltese a 1000 population was destroyed by fire yesterday without loss of life Baylor says he saw the flames sweep through Saltese and destroy homes and buildings in minutes authorities are investigating the blaze and estimating the damage remains unknown at this time
A late August gale near Vancouver Washington fans multiple brush and timber fires from Cam as to Mill Plain. The Larch Mountain blaze near Cam as consumes timber and two mills, with over 200 men fighting. Other fires threaten Sunnyside, Washougal, and areas behind Cape Horn and Yacolt. Dense smoke forces artificial light in Vancouver.
Spokane reports one hundred dead as fires devastate Idaho and Montana. Government crews remain unaccounted but are led by seasoned men with no serious safety fears. Rain hits Montana helping containment while Idaho misses hoped for precipitation. Firefighters press assault on lingering blazes as Sand Point Pend d Oreille fires intensify.
A forest fire near Goldson 38 miles west of Eugene grows to serious proportions threatening the district below Triangle Lake. Bridges burned, residents flee, and local militiamen from Junction City offer help as crews deploy pumps along the Long Tom to halt spread. In Greenfield California Frederick W Becker and F Tognazzini two King City figures fought with shotgun and rifle last night. Becker was killed and Mrs Becker and her father W L Fowler were wounded in a shack where they were found asleep. Tognazzini was arrested on murder charges as the sole uninjured participant.
Surveyors seek an entry route for the Hill line into Eugene with a one percent grade limit. Initial Fifth street run failed due to grade, exploring Fifteenth street and Westside options toward Springfield. Lane County Asset Co franchises cover most surveyed streets, and Fifth street may be abandoned as a rail route for a long period if chosen routes prove unfeasible.
Tokio reports the convention formalizing Korea's annexation to Japan was communicated to powers today. The document, signed August 22, becomes effective at promulgation, expected August 29, with official details to follow.

Deputy District Attorney Skipworth and Sheriff Bown reported the coroner's jury found justifiable homicide in the death of B. S. Prindel, killed by John Johnson near Maple Creek Sunday night. Johnson, a Swede with a 160 acre Deadwood creek ranch, claimed Prindel made improper advances toward his wife Rose Case Johnson, who resides at Yaquina Bay. The inquest heard Mrs. Johnson describe the struggle and a gunshot that ended the incident, with Prindel's employer Hasbrough and Stanwood assisting in removing the body to Florence for the inquest. The jury's unanimous verdict satisfied Prindel's relatives and local citizens in lower Situslaw.
