A quiet but impressive marriage took place at the bride's parents home last Thursday evening December 2 in Estherville. Elmer Moore and Helen J. Bowman were wed with Rev. Benjamin Franklin officiating. After December 15 they reside at 722 North Tenth Street. Also noted is the funeral of C Q Eckholm in Swea City, with Rev. Franklin officiating. Eckholm, an early Swea City settler from Sweden who came in 1869, was highly esteemed.
Ben Flindt and Harvey Hipple promoted to engineers on the Rock Island. Several staff changes follow as R. A. Bixby laid up with a crippled foot and others move, with engineers Hamilton and Haley promoted and a Sioux Falls switch job noted. Nearby Dr J Thomson reports a cerebrospinal meningitis outbreak among horses near Spencer.
A campaign drive offers a gold watch to the Democrat office subscriber who signs the most new subscriptions between December 7 and December 18 at 8 pm. The double vote incentive is extended to December 18, encouraging rapid signup.

Paul Campbell, a switchman for several years, died Saturday at 9:00 am from injuries suffered in a Rock Island yards accident around 3:43 pm. He stepped between cars to couple when wheels struck him, both legs above the knees crushed. He regressed to death at 8:46 pm after hospital transfer. He left a wife and baby, plus family in Emmet County. Funeral held at Presbyterian church. interment Oak Hill.
