Travelers include Claud Enlow, Earl Stewart, B E Roberson, George Smith, J. E. Hawkins, and many more visiting relatives, attending fairs, or conducting business.
A 79th birthday dinner for Riley J. Wilson was held September 15 1916 at his Marengo home. Eight veterans and many relatives attended. a large noon meal was served, a Bible given as a gift, a group photo taken, and attendees left wishing him long life. An unrelated for sale notice ended the item.

J G Parks and John Myers of Alton were tarascon passengers grounding at Blue River Island and passed through en route home. Minnie Cox attended party at Jas East’s Pleasant Ridge Saturday night. Mr and Mrs John Mahr visiting Alcom. Frank Mahr of Milltown was here Tuesday.
A Mt Vernon resident reports Abe Martin’s habit of pouring coffee into a saucer and blowing to cool it. He says the north end man repeats the stunt whenever coffee is too hot. The note adds that old timers would skip strict etiquette to avoid hunger.
I M Golden proprietor of Golden Rule has a check from a Louisville firm for products shipped by a farmer near English. The check was placed in Golden Rule box with his name on the shipping box. Please call to recover the check.
Ringling Bros will perform Wednesday October 4 in Louisville with afternoon and night shows. The new program features the fairyland spectacle Cinderella with over 1000 participants including 400 artists in the main tent after the show. The touring menagerie has 1009 wild animals and 41 elephants led by Big Bingo, with about 800 horses. A three mile morning street parade precedes the events.
Mrs. Margaret Eckerty, Anne Garland and daughter Helen visited Dr. C. D. Luckett and family at English. Mrs. Maude King and children from Dubois visited relatives here the past week. M. L. Ott was at English Monday. Mrs. E. B. Sturm and baby spent the past week at French Lick. Mr. and Mrs. Omar Brown and daughters Cora and Mary and Mary Woolums and Etna King spent Sunday with M. L. Ott. Miss Dollie Miller returned to Indianapolis last Friday after visiting home folks. Archie Bobbite went to Marengo Saturday to teach high school. Rev. Godhey preaches farewell here Sunday. Elder Sampson Cox begins protracted meeting at the Christian church Monday night, September 25.

Zella Knight, staying at Ft Wayne, returned home last week. Mr and Mrs Allan Johnson of Branchville came Sunday to visit their daughters Mrs Ernest Smitley and Mrs Henry Smitley. Miss Lillie Johnson, staying at Branchville, returned home.
