Sept. 17 dispatch lists rural delivery routes across Indiana with details per town including Clinton Kendallville Pittsboro Joesville and Burkett. Rev. J F Peat his wife and four children and Miss E Hunt, missionaries who escaped from western China, arrived in San Francisco aboard the Nippon Maru. They traveled 1966 miles after consular warnings but faced no violence. Peat reports Chinese arsenals in provincial capitals and local use of Mauser rifles being produced in Chen tu.
The Bible house at Fourth Avenue and Ninth Street, home to the American Bible Society for almost fifty years, will be sold. The society will give up its large printing plant and transfer Bible production to contract work due to competition from the Oxford and International Bible companies in England.
The large Hamburg American line steamer Bosnia reached San Francisco from Philadelphia in 47 days and 10 hours. Chartered by the German government, she is the largest ship to enter the port and will transport over 1,100 animals and fodder for the German cavalry in China.

Gen Scurry Mayor Jones and Alderman Perry praise improvements while relief headquarters log dead swells and plan sworn statements for life insurance and legal use. Cincinnati reports a devastating blaze on East Front Street at a Salvation Army day nursery in a four story tenement. Six people died including four young children, with several adults injured and the building badly burned. Rescue efforts were heroic as mothers arrived at hospitals and the morgue to identify their children.
Rev C L Smith longtime pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church south in Kirkwood has been absent from home for over a week causing anxiety among his son friends and congregation. He has long been a prominent figure in the Southern Methodist church and has served as secretary of the St Louis conference for seven or eight years. The conference meets at St John’s church in St Louis tomorrow, making his absence especially concerning.
Harry Meyer alias Muldoon, 64, with white hair, and Eldred Cloud, 14, relatives by marriage, were arrested about six o'clock at the western approach of the Eads bridge. They are charged with blowing a safe at Millstadt Illinois, near Belleville.
A fatigue party blow up during gunpowder destruction at Tung Chow, causing casualties. Eleven Welsh fusiliers wounded. two British Indian soldiers killed. 13 Indian soldiers wounded. Capt Hill and eleven British Chinese infantry soldiers wounded.
Washington Sept 18 The police guard at the Chinese legation for several weeks will be withdrawn as no longer necessary. The decision followed a conference at the state department between Acting Secretary Adee and the local chief of police.
Glasgow September 18 Andrew Carnegie promised Greenock town council five thousand pounds to found a public library in Greenock.
Kingston reporters cite travelers from Colon predicting turmoil in Bogota as former president San Clemente is jailed by Vice President Marroquin who has assumed power amid health related retirement. The capital is described as chaotic with talk of a second revolution against the current government.
Havana report announces Capt. Geo. Cartwright of the Twenty fourth United States Infantry quartermaster’s department was taken down with yellow fever yesterday at Camp Columbia. The notice notes the illness as part of ongoing tropical fever cases affecting personnel stationed there.

Second dispatch from Pekin details Tien Tsin to Taku expedition with 30 miles southward march, minor opposition, and British destruction of a town with no casualties.
Bowman Gaines testifies he saw Jim Howard flee the state house grounds after the Geabel shooting. He withstands cross examination by Col. Owens and remains certain Howard was the man who ran from the rear grounds.
Lead D. Sept 18 reports Capt Grant Todd of this city was struck on the neck by a mining hammer in the Hidden Fortune mine. The blow shattered nerves and left him totally blind, with fears of permanent affliction. Todd once led a troop in the Jameson raid and was banished from South Africa after capture by Boers. In New York Oct 18 the Bellevue patient known as the man with the iron mask died, Thomas Oliver Colt born in Connecticut.
