About 150 people gathered Sunday at Fairview Park Indianapolis for the Crawford county reunion with a noon picnic and afternoon program. President O C Boyd led prayers and introductions while Loyd Claycomb Rev Luke Brown and Rev L C Marr spoke on county history and religious life. Earl Grimes of Leavenworth and Frank Bline of Milltown led Crawford county’s draftees departing Wednesday for Camp Zachary Taylor in Louisville. Emery Taylor of Marengo and Floyd Satterfield near English followed Thursday, part of an eighty one man county quota for 42,000 trainees. Citizens gathered with a band to welcome and pray for the volunteers. Mrs. George Dalrymple calls Red Cross helpers to Funk and Spencer’s vacant room next Monday afternoon.
Dr James Douglas Bobbitt assistant surgeon in the U S Navy married Miss Floyd Barnes of Beechmont Louisville in a 2 pm ceremony at the bride’s father Ben H Barnes home Beechmont Rev Dr Harris Mallinckrodt chaplain of the 159th Regiment performed the wedding and the couple planned a ten day honeymoon to the lakes of Northern Wisconsin The romance began last May after Bobbitt spoke at a Liberty Loan event and Miss Barnes sang patriotic songs.
Hoopeston Illinois two large corn canneries report an exceptionally good crop and favorable weather. Plants will operate into the first half of October and seek workers for factory and field teams. For details contact Hoopeston Canning Company or Illinois Canning Company Hoopeston Uizela.
A Wednesday evening fire destroyed the livery stable and two small buildings owned by James A. Hughes south of the livery at Eckerty Indiana. Insurance covered losses for Hughes and H A Rothrock with damages to building and contents. Residents called for a fire chief and organized effort to improve hose operation and prevent future disasters.
Miss Irene Stuart and Claud Stewart visited relatives in Kentucky and Indiana while others such as Prof. E. E. Stone and Rev. J. H. Walls attended events or preached. Families including the Payson and Key households were noted at funerals and visits, with locals at Camp Taylor and Louisville for business and family ties.
