The Republicans of Indiana's Third congressional district will meet at New Albany on Thursday September 19 1912 at 1 pm to nominate a candidate for congress to be voted on at the next election. A majority vote will nominate and Robt W Morris chairs the district meeting urging turnout.
A Crawford County notice calls Republicans to a Mass Convention in English on September 16 1912 for selecting a Congressional candidate. The piece lists movers and shakers, local transfers, and forthcoming events tied to the English area as part of a district political effort.
The piece recalls early coal use in London provoking smoke complaints under King Edward and Charles I. A commission punished offenders by fines and furnace destruction, and coal burning was made a capital offense with at least one hanging. The article frames this as an early industrial bitter dispute and notes liver remedy ad insert.
Dr. Harry Weil formerly of this place now a Macksville resident for two years married Miss Eva Muse of Macksville in Kansas City on September 2, 1912. Weil trained as a dentist and moved from Mecksville in 1910. the union is announced with best wishes from The News. The partnership of Tusley Bros. dissolves soon. those owing amounts are asked to settle.
James E. Stewart writes that he has not left Crawford county and explains his wife’s temporary move to Terre Haute for better schooling for their son. He notes his lifelong home in Crawford county except for five years at Indiana University Bloomington and asks for future patronage from friends.
A letter from J C Forbes at Rosehill Iowa dated August 28 1912 explains subscription delays and notes only two Crawford county residents remain at home with Mrs Walden visiting in Council Bluffs. Forbes encloses payment and expresses fondness for The News as a link to home.
On Saturday night August 31 Magnolia residents held an old fashioned hop with parents and children joining in. Visitors included John W Tucker and wife from Fredonia Uncle Pres Bowman and wife, Curby’s Mrs Annie Goldman, Brush Creek’s Mr Satterfield. A load of melons crowded the street and Dr Johnson of Curby arrived with plans for ground work.
In Vermont the governor race went to the legislature after no candidate won a majority. Republican A. M. Fletcher led with 24000 votes, while H. B. Howe had 17000 and Frazier Metzger 13000. other minor totals included Clement Smith 1300 and Suiter Barre 976. Chair Hilles of the RNC said the result supports Roosevelt not winning any state and that Roosevelt’s campaign aims to defeat the President.
A beautiful early fall wedding occurred Sunday Sept. 1 at the home of Mr and Mrs David Parks of Riverside place. Their daughter Miss Blanche wed Noble R. Engleman of New Albany in a ceremony at high noon. The couple plans to live in New Albany after a sailing on the Str Tell City. Guests from Alton joined the celebration and showered the couple with rice and old shoes as they departed.
Evanglist Lamar will hold a tent meeting in Sulphur starting September 23 as earlier planned. Scott Miller from Grantsburg will occupy Mrs Media Paschal's house with his family during the Holiness meeting.

Numerous town residents and out of town visitors frequent English and Corydon events including fairs, visits, and meetings with families such as Real, Longest, and Mathers and attendance at Holiness meetings and social gatherings.
Mr. Oskins and Miss Clinkin Smith wed in a cave with Rev. Lamar officiating. The couple already had a license. Oskins is a noted musician and band instructor.
Health is very good. Rev Rowe held his regular appointment at the M E church Sunday evening at 7 36. Mr and Mrs M G Real of Louisville visited friends. Families including Irvin Bobbitt Fesler Moch and Edna Bobbitt attended church at West Fork. M S Real clerked in M G Real store while Mr Real was in Louisville. Rev C C Lamar will preach at the church of Christ Saturday night.
