Death of a community pillar Christopher Eckerty
Christopher Eckerty a prominent Crawford county citizen died at his Eckerty home after a long illness. Born in Berne Switzerland on April 1 1846 he emigrated to America with his family at eight and settled near New Philadelphia Ohio before moving to Crawford county Indiana in 1861 He married Margret Speedy in 1865 and raised ten children The community mourns a loyal Mason and active church supporter who helped establish the Eckerty Methodist church and was known for honesty and charitable acts The funeral was led by Rev George Holmes with Masonic rites present by nearby lodges Local notices follow including visitors and arrivals from nearby towns.

The Southern Wednesday changed agents at the Huntingburg depot. John A. Wood, longtime head of the Southern's interests there, was canned along with assistants Frank Steinert and Dan Reh. Mr. A McFatridge, Inspector of Agencies, takes charge until a replacement for Mr. Wood is secured.

Born December 3, 1861, in Paoli Indiana, he lived a storied career as a printer, newspaper publisher, postmaster, and traveling salesman. He leaves a wife May Annie a daughter Blanche a son Russell two sisters a brother and a step mother and was interred with Modern Woodmen of America rites.
