Citizens are reminded that all candidates for county and township nominations must file a campaign expense statement with the county clerk within thirty days after the convention, regardless of spending. Blanks available at the clerk’s office.
James Faulkner, born March 28, 1852 in Pittsburgh, died April 27 near Doolittle Mills after living in Crawford and Perry counties. He taught in two counties for thirty nine years and was devoted to his Catholic faith. Survived by wife, two sisters, one daughter and four sons. Funeral by Rev. Father Manning. burial at St. Croix cemetery.
Grantsburg Lodge No. 407 I C C F notes the death of longtime member William L. Gregory after more than 25 years of service. The resolutions honor his cheer, duty, and deeds, extend sympathy to his family, and order mourning for three days with notices to press, family, and lodge archives. Committee members B. E. Roberson, H. Grant, and J. A. Blevins sign.
The Pocket Publishers' League, a Southern Indiana group of nearly all country newspaper men, will hold its quarterly meeting at Marengo tonight with their wives. Also noted are local farm losses, new automobile purchases, and education board actions selecting a truancy officer for the coming year.
Next Sunday marks Mother's Day, a holiday created by Miss Anna Jarvis to honor motherhood. The white carnation symbolizes purity and faithfulness, and homes prepare bouquets or baskets to express thanks as the observance grows nationwide. The Republicans of Boone township plan a primary convention at Alton precinct on Saturday May 23 1914 to select a township ticket for the November election. T. D. Esarey as Committeeman and Mr and Mrs John Temple with their son Hugh visited Atty and Mrs S A Lambdin at their camp on Little Blue early this week.
Murray Farnesley a Floyed county fruit grower says frost damage in April may boost peach quality and yield. He notes trees were overburdened and freezes helped. Also mentions eyewear fitting dates, Rev Elmore preaching at Christian church and promoting Christian Standard. An ad seeks a salesman for automobile oils and paints by Middle States Oil Co.
Leavenworth residents undertake visits to Louisville Indianapolis and Detroit while others plan future homes in Madison and New Albany. The Cotton Blossom Floating Theatre performed to a large audience and Leavenworth High School held its annual commencement with Rev Frank Denny delivering the address. John Smith married Estella Odell at the M E parsonage with Rev Valentine Deich officiating.
Trustee Clark Sloan and many residents were seen in English on business or visiting relatives including Prof. D. M. Hammond of St. Louis and Miss Pearl Mays. The Marengo high school closed its term with diplomas to a list of graduates and a large audience attended the Red Men Hall exercises.
Mrs Ernest Dillman is on the sick list. After an extended visit with her parents Mrs Elsie Perkins has returned to Louisville. Delbert Riley and wife were in English George Byrd visited his brother Willie. Mrs Francis Spears visited her mother in Orange County last Thursday. Mrs Minnie Riddle and Mrs Zora Gregory of near English visited Mrs Mary Sarles last Friday. Ernest and Edgar Dillman and Wm E Cummins visited friends on Bogard. Thomas Cunningham attended Masonic Lodge at Marengo Saturday night. John Woolems nearly lost his home to fire last week but neighbors aided. Ernest and Nettie Dillman with Elsie Perkins attended Robert Cummins funeral last Wednesday. Cyrus Mills of Mt Sterling passed through last Sunday. Orin Sakies was in town Saturday.
John Meredith visited friends at Birdseye Saturday night. Edith Bolden of Birdseye visited Nellie Polen, and Mrs. W. H. Polen spent a day in Oakland City. Susie and Mildred Newton stayed with Addie Kellams at Birdseye. W. S. Jones and children from Birdseye visited D. W. Jones on Sunday. Lillian and Lila Jones joined Lula Wells at Birdseye for the Tackey masquerade. Omer Deich Elza Atkins and Ollie Brown depart for Danville for summer study. Fred Austin returned to Indianapolis after visiting his parents. Robt. Donahoe and wife visited their daughter Noble Leonard at Birdseye and attended church.
Fine weather grace Wickliffe as residents report a quiet week. Nellie Osborn returned from Marengo high school. Dora Dewitt visited grandmother Mrs. Mary Eastridge and Nellie Osborn called on Lillian Moery. Maude Brown improving slowly after illness. Oda Kellams, Peal, and Billie Moery visited Kate Stemply. Raymond Moery and Edwin Wells fished with Everett Dewitt.
