Township assessors report early questions on the mortgage exemption law. The rule grants tax relief up to 700 dollars for mortgages above that amount, with half the mortgage for smaller loans. Affidavits must be filed with the county assessor, and exemptions cap at one per land parcel, with joint owners both signing.

Health largely good with Philip Baker dangerously ill. Farmers plow oats amid a cold wave last Wednesday lowering temps to eight above. Some boys head west and more will follow. Jacob Wiseman of Beechwood visited on the Ridge last week. Lou Jones and son Gresham visited A M Feeman. Bertha Perkins stayed with Katie Crecelius. Hubert Schultz is sick. Lola Neal, recent Grantsburg guest, returned home. Wright and Ritchie went to English on business. Schultz spouses visited Abraham Butts. Omer Roberson builds a residence. Frank Wright builds a barn for Milton Smith. Local stores see heavy trade. Riddle school closed last Tuesday with John A Wright teaching. Wm Sturgeon of Montgomery visits relatives. Philip Schultz and wife visited then returned to Wabash. M E church sermon by Rev Minter.
Lawrence county joined the Third district in the closing hours of the last legislature. The move aimed to fortify the Second district for Democrats while preserving slight Democratic chances in the Third. Lawrence county, voting 400 Republican last election, will bring ten counties to the Third instead of nine. John Dillman and wife were guests of D. H. Dillman Sunday. D M Stephenson visited Andy Stephenson Sunday. August and Peter Senn were at the falls cities Monday.

Dora and Delia Conrad head to Terre Haute for schooling while Ruth Allen hosts a farewell gathering. Local residents travel for business shopping and college and a wind storm rescue event is recounted.
Mary Adeline O'Riley Parr hosted a St Patrick's Day event with a green theme and guests including Cary Harrison Jr and many named friends. O'Shaughnissy won a prize, six musical interludes filled the program, and June apple punch and cake followed the festivities. Sheridan Purcell and Mrs Purcell visited Milltown. Mrs May Gaither and children returned from Rockport. D S Deuchars and wife visited their son.
J F Zimmerman and family visited Marengo on Saturday while Manford McFarland returned from New Albany Friday night. Valentine Deich traveled to Louisville on business Friday. A large crowd attended services at the M E church Sunday. John Veatch and son from French Lick stayed in the area Friday and Saturday, and John Deich Jr of Elizabeth was home on Sunday.
Opal Turner from Marengo visits uncle M E Stewart while A D Huff and wife of English pass through en route to Leavenworth. Mrs Anna Temple is on sick list this week. Hubert Henry travels to Illinois for summer work and takes a diploma exam in English. A H Tower and family visit Kelley Jenkins at Curby. Several locals including Lizzie Hilgert and families spend Sunday with Joy Stewart. Clarence Landrus travels to Marengo on Saturday. Sam Everdon works as a carpenter in Leavenworth last week. X Y Z.
