State tax levy caps university maintenance funds
Attorney General Honan states the 7 cent tax levy limits Indiana University Purdue University and Indiana State Normal to spending only the new levy on state property. The $1,350,000 annual revenue will fund maintenance and building for all three schools with Indiana University and Purdue each receiving two fifths and Indiana State Normal one fifth. Funeral for Civil War veteran James Mansfield Held
James M Mansfield 86 died suddenly March 14 at the Perkins House. He served as color sergeant in Co C 66 Ind Reg and was the last Mansfield in the family of William and Rebecca. Survived by son W W Mansfield of Bowling Green and several grandchildren. funeral held with local attendees. Various locals attended obsequies and visitors from Louisville Evansville New Albany Corydon and Marengo were listed among mourners and attendees.

In Wickliffe spring weather brings several sugar camps. No. 9 school taught by Miss Airey Seymour closed March 13, with a dinner and program by Miss Seymour and her scholars to over a hundred attendees.
