Mrs Everett Prince at Birdseye and Miss Mae Luckett returning from Louisville are among many movement reports. Residents from Georgetown Greensburg Louisville New Albany Huntingburg English and neighboring towns were seen visiting relatives attending funerals or conducting business this week.

Red Cross Notes and Local Theater Benefit

The Red Cross reports weekly shipments from English Chapter Leavenworth Marengo and Milltown including hospital bed shirts socks wash cloths bandages and comfort items. Milltown leads with 26 pairs of socks and 12 shirts and 349 pairs of knitted socks have been supplied countywide. Tomorrow night Marengo’s Face at the Window a three act drama will be staged at the opera house with proceeds going to the local Red Cross chapter.

Volunteers Join U.S. Army From Local County

Eleven county residents volunteered for the U.S. Army and left for duty this week. Assignments include Luther and Charles Cunningham to Vancouver Barracks, David E. Mack to Ft. Oglethorpe, Walls and Bennett to Columbus Barracks, Wilson and Hutslar to Columbus Barracks, Mauck to San Antonio, and others. Navy volunteer W. E. Jenkins heads to Newport, Rhode Island. The piece also notes local opinions on farm scraps and meal habits, plus assorted town news and Crawford circuit court calendar items.

Johnson Pioneer Educator Remembered In Indiana Obituary

The obituary honors John M. Johnson born June 9 1826 near North Marengo Crawford county Indiana. He founded Marengo Academy in 1869 led local schools for decades and helped shape the county education system. Memorials note his devout ministry and long community service with a large funeral at the Marengo church.

Mrs. Tucker Dies at Etowah Tennessee

Mrs. Sebaline Tucker died at her Etowah home after a twelve hour illness of acute indigestion. She was seventy five, widow of Martin H. Tucker, and survived by daughter Edna and son Robert, both of Etowah, plus sisters Rebecca Hall of English and Nancy J. Bunch of New Albany. Her funeral was at English or English cemetery, conducted by Elder Leonard Cummins, with burial at English cemetery.
