Young men urged to enlist before draft call

Men aged 18 to 40 may join the regular army anytime before being called to the colors, expected around September 1. Registration for the draft does not interfere with regular army enlistment. Enlisting offers the benefit of choosing a preferred arm of service.

Robbery nets cash and valuables at Mt. Carmel lunch counter

Karl Fesler, pressman for the Republican, reported a $30 theft from his lunch room as employee Ed Pope, described as a tramp, stole cash and a watch on April 23. Pope was later arrested in Bridgeport and brought to county jail for preliminary hearing while Fesler’s link to Sulphur and Mt. Carmel roots is noted.
