Mme. Ma belle Wagner Shank, longtime member of Henry W. Savate's operatic forces, will direct the Handel Choir at Chautauqua. She also stars in Madame Butterfly and The Days of '64 in costume, bringing high class musical talent to the program.
The notice lists Sunday sermons at Mifin Taswell and English locations with an all day Temple meeting on Tuesday August 1. Prof Christie of Purdue to speak on Rural Life, district superintendent will preach, and a large Temple crowd is noted with a closing thought on genuine faith. Also four Lots for sale in High School Addition offered by The News office.
An all day meeting is planned in the grove near the Tunnel Hill church on Sunday August 6 with shade and water provided and all invited. Rev. Edw Kinser preacher. A basket meeting is planned next Sunday at Riddle with Supt. W E Snyder preaching both services. A piano sale involved Leavenworth buyers including George Meade and a K P Lodge. A child was lightly injured when struck by a horse on East Fifth Street. Dr. Gobbel treated the boy and a miracle was noted by onlookers.
The Harrison County Holiness Association will hold its twelfth annual camp meeting in a large Ramsey tabernacle from August 11 to 21. Rev. J. B. McBride of Berkeley, Cal and Rev. A. S. Clark of Gaymon, Okla lead the workers. Special rates, train pickup, and board details are offered. inquiries go to secretary George F. Pinaire in Ramsey or president Jasper N. Davis in Depauw.
The West Fork church will be dedicated on the Fourth Lord's Day in August 1916 with T. J. Leggs as dedicator, representing the State Evangelists. John W. Goldman invites all to attend.
English accompanied by the Milltown Band attended Marengo's Chautauqua at English this week and local citizens will join in. Rev. R S Black held tent meetings with large crowds and Prof J Floyd Seeig led singing. F P Wood sold his hardware store to James W Merryman and Roy Tower and will move to a college town to enroll his children. Ralph Kate and Esther are noted for teaching and graduation respectively as Marengo loses a valued citizen and businessman.
The Handel Choir will feature a costume sketch titled The Days of 64 as part of its varied program at the Chautauqua. The concert opens with a sacred sequence, then performs selections from light and grand opera and portions of Madame Butterfly, also in costume.
