State Bank Examiner E M Hinshaw reports only two state banks failed in ten years with total deposit losses of 75 000. Deposits total about 30 million across 83 banks. He notes frequent examinations and auditor oversight bolster stability and quick corrective action.
Otis Kirkpatrick auction set for Thursday August 10 at his south English home. Jubilee Singers perform at the Opera House that same Thursday. Peter Denton, a 70 year old man with a spinal ailment, drove from five miles below Milltown to New Albany in a rickety wagon drawn by a gray horse, carrying fifty three dozen eggs. He unloaded quickly and returned without alighting, claiming a Monday start and a two day trip to avoid lodging costs. The piece also notes a soldiers reunion in English on August 16 to 19 and Starton's Jubilee Singers appearing August 10 at the Opera House, described as high class artists and part of Chautauqua circuits.
The Indiana Railway Commission, acting on a complaint by coal dealer R Y Thomas, induced the Southern Railway to reduce coal rates from Winslow to all points between Huntingburg and New Albany. Previously sixty five cents to Huntingburg and Birds Eye, eighty cents to Marengo Milltown and DePauw, and eighty five cents to Corydon Junction. The new flat rate is forty cents a ton.

A son of H. W. Wright of Grantsburg narrowly avoided being hit by a freight train at the railroad crossing Monday noon. His wagon was torn to fragments and a horse was injured as the east bound local backed up near the depot while the crossing occurred.
