A company plans to build a hotel and sanitarium over Marengo cave in Indiana to treat hay fever patients with pure air drawn from the cave. Similar trials at Mammoth and Wyandotte caves housed consumptives, but those efforts were abandoned as life inside the cave proved bleak and unappealing.
Dr E M Land of Grantsburg visited the sick in West Fork on Sunday. Beechwood baptized several residents from the area. Mrs Sarah Carmickle and grandson Earl Miller of West Baden visited relatives here. Keaney Duffin of Louisville returned home after visiting his father Frank Duffin. Locals attended a Branchville sale Saturday. Mrs Lucy Cole of Uniontown visited friends here. Aden Miller of Bethany visited Marion Campbell and wife. Mrs John Reasor had dental work in English Wednesday. M F Bomelaski did dental work in West Fork Wednesday and Thursday. W L Goldman was at English Monday. Mrs Atha Jobe visited her parents near John Jobe, who went to Louisville Friday for work.
No. 18 health is good in this vicinity. Chas Byrd of Lima Ohio visits his parents this week. Mrs L Jones has been very sick with measles. W J Byrd and wife visit Cleveland Byrd family meet Mt Prospect. Mrs Loreng Cunningham and Mrs Nettie Dillman visit Mrs Susie Wool ems who is very sick Sunday. Mrs Daisy Riley visit John Mills and a family, Nettie Sheffield who is very sick.
Numerous connections and trips fill the week with visits to New Albany Louisville and West Baden. Attendees include Miss Sadie Bullington and twenty Louisville stenographers. An Australia lecture by Rev Geo E Collins drew a sizable audience at Red Men Hall. The Scott Orchestra staged a popular musical night with ice cream social at Red Men Hall. Union Revival services led by Evangelist Shelton begin Monday night from Marion Indiana.
Judge Harry Montgomery sustains motions to quash indictments against John M. Paris and Claud A. Sittason, Democratic nominees for prosecuting attorney and county treasurer, in Floyd circuit court. Indictments charged violations of the corrupt practices act for hiring men on primary day. court ruled the charges defective for not showing prohibited acts.
N A Whaley attended teachers exam in English on Saturday. Visits paid between residents over Sunday include Miss Ona Jones to Miss Lila Jones and Miss Edith Bolden to Miss Brittie Newton near Eckerty. Mrs Tildep Sigler of Birdseye visited Mrs Samuel Polen. many from the area attended Birdseye commencement Monday night. A group including J L D Blunk and wife Pearl Self Lilla Jones Lionel Cook George Cook and Guy Austin attended Eckerty church Sunday. W H Polen and sons Orville and Orin Dora Helmbrecht and Albert Polen took an excursion to French Lick. Sem Polen and wife hosted dinner for several guests. The obituary notes the death of Exneat Kaiser son of Semmel Kaiser and Wosbee deems the child’s transplant to a heavenly rest after nine months. Funeral services were held at Eckerty Friday afternoon with parents and five brothers and one sister surviving.
Magnolia residents and guests share a busy weekend pattern with visits among Stephenson, Archibald, Shaw, Ballard, Shaw and other families. The roster includes Mrs. Augie Cox and daughter Inez, Miss Nellie Shaw in Leavenworth, James Stephenson near Cosby, and multiple exchanges with D. H. Dillman, W. Q. Ballard, and Bathsheba Shaw. An ice cream supper is planned at Curby Saturday night and Sunday school gatherings occur at Magnolia each week.
The wheat harvest has ended and threshing will begin Monday at Capt Everdon's. Jeffersonville visitors included Wm. Clark and family who traveled by auto to Wm. Coles. Mrs. C R Tower returned home with her father Isaiah Henry after a weeks visit. James Carter, stock buyer of Mill town, transacted business Friday. Tom Stephenson and family visited Zenor Deans. Prof. E L Stewart and wife expect to visit this week. Miss Bea Carson, recent Louisville business college student, has returned home. John Deaper lost a valuable cow Saturday due to eating wet clover.
Miss Dott Odie of Louisville is the guest of Miss Ben Carson this week. W. B. Cates and wife visited S. R. Cates at Leavenworth Sunday. Luther Temple purchased a span of miles of Chas. Scott Monday. Reader.
A large crowd from Riddle attended a baptism at Merrilees Bridge with Rev. John Goldman presiding. Nine individuals were immersed, followed by photos taken by Mr. Riley. Sermons and community notices filled the day's events amid recent rain and local visits.
J B Maher made a business trip to Leavenworth Friday. James I Rodgers and family were here Sunday. Lyon Riddle returned home after a few weeks with Elmer Riddle and wife at Beechwood. Annie Slaughter of near Milltown returned home after visiting her sister Grace Shaffer. Frank Maher of Milltown was in the area last week. James Provter of Milltown visited James Rodgers Saturday and Sunday. T H Roach and wife and L A Riddle and wife visited Elmer Riddle at Beechwood Saturday and Sunday. Miss Alice Shaffer visiting Aunt Annie Slaughterback near Milltown. James Rodgers was at Leavenworth Saturday. Several from here attended Sunday School at the Baptist church on Pleasant Ridge.
A large crowd attended the beaker meeting at the bridge Sunday. James Shea died at his Beechwood home after a lingering illness. His burial occurred Monday at Whnewna cemetery as the community shared sympathy. Numerous relatives and neighbors visited and conveyed condolences.
