MIFFLIN Sunday school at this place was well attended Sunday afternoon. Several residents and visitors including Sarah Laswell of New Albany and Mrs. A. J. Oster of English were noted visiting local families. The week featured multiple visits, an all day meeting announced for July 4, and a number of relatives calling on one another.
Religious and social notes from Temple detail Rev A J Oster’s sermon, visits by Mrs Real and Miss Lambdin, and numerous townsfolk traveling to English, Borden, Marengo and New Albany as rain hampers farm chores and daily routines.
Valeene and Bacon ball team came over Sunday to play the home team, but owing to the heavy rain there was no game. Mrs. John Owens of Iowa visiting relatives near Leavenworth and others plan to spend tomorrow at Marengo. Chas. Jones was at English Monday. R. R. Real at Marengo Saturday. E. M. Real and H. E. Temple at English Monday. Tom Strother and Hugh Deweese at Milltown Tuesday.
Mrs. Harvey Holloway returns from New Albany and Jeffersonville while Mrs. James Brown visits her parents the Housers. Nurses, operators, and residents travel between Louis ville, Jeffersonville, Corydon and Leavenworth with theater plans and social visits noted.
Grantsburg society news records many health updates and visits. Aunt Mary Vanwinkle remains very low while Mrs. J B Ferguson and Mrs. Chas Adkins host or visit relatives at Pleasant Hill and English. Various residents, including Miss Edna Yates and Miss Kathryn Ferguson, show slow or improving recoveries as neighbors share news.
Samuel J. Elsby was elected president of the German-American Bank and Trust Company in New Albany at a stockholders meeting. Perry N. Curl, Charles Kreutzer, Thomas B. Sonner, and Charles D. Kelso were named officers. Directors include Curl, Kahler, Davis, Kraft, Thurman, Rowe, Kelso, Stein, Kreutzer, Tucker, Benz, Elsby, Sonner, Hammond, Hayes, Cave, Alexander, and Kemper. Capital stock is $200,000, oversubscribed. The bank will open at 14 East Market Street on July 6.
