Time card for the Southern Railway shows trains at English with schedules including 7 1 2 a m and 3 4 p m times and a 10 19 a m 8 1188 p m service. Local agent T T Stites in English issues the notice dated Sunday December 14 1902.
Local notes report Crawford County Normal starting spring term on April 8 with three courses: Common School, Teachers, and High School. Also recorded: Dr. W. H. Mode named door keeper of the State Senate, and Captain Hobson to lecture on the American Navy in New Albany.
The Indianapolis News reports the typical age of Indiana General Assembly members as forty four. The youngest House member is Adolph F. Decker of Evansville born January 20 1680. The youngest senator is John D. Roach of Mount Vernon born 32 years ago. The oldest is Harmon M. Purviance of Huntington born March 30 1557 and aged sixty six.
Notice to the Public announces January 26 opening of a full merchandise stock in the Luckett building next to the Stone building. Dry goods hats notions clothing shoes and fancy groceries will be offered at lower prices with emphasis on better goods. WM. L. Gregory invites patronage and promises fair prices. Also described is a confiscation of sixteen carloads of coal by Arcola citizens who halted a Chicago bound train and distributed the coal to locals as an example of reform in crisis.

Sam Huff of Magnolia and James McLain of Pilot Knob conducted business in English. Mrs Key has improved to sit up. James Moss and wife returned from Tennessee. Geo Ben Omes of Milltown looked after his farm here. Ben Okes from Marengo stayed with friends at English. Co E Huff of Taswell delivered broom loads. Mrs Wm Miller and children visited near Eckerty. McFarland trustee transacted Patoka township business in English. Rabbitt assisting Treasurer Joe Bell spent Sunday with family at Eckerty. W C Benham returned to Mt Carmel after visits with Grantsburg friends. Atty W T Thornbury went to White Cloud for sister Mrs Rothrock’s death. Miss Bertha Moore returned from New Albany to her home. William Weil came back from the Philippines after three years as a soldier. Uncle Jesse Crecelius and wife returned home to Eckerty after visiting south of town.
Harry Welker visited town Sunday. Mrs. John Lee died Sunday afternoon after two weeks illness. Interment at Mt. Zion cemetery near DePauw Tuesday. Prohibition Alliance met at the Christian church Tuesday night. Severe weather caused Rev. Breeden to miss the 2:30 pm appointment. Rev. Rhodes delivered a short sermon.
