The Freshman class adds Frank Henderson who entered school last Monday. Senior and junior names appear in editorials and various class activities. College visits, class color debates, grafting charts, and holiday visits fill the district school notes with local names and routines.
Christmas events lit up English town with church gatherings and moving picture shows at the opera house. The English Citizens Band performed a free Christmas concert, with the audience voting thanks to the band. The column notes marriages, local relocations, illnesses, deaths, and holiday visits among residents, including Cuzzort, Rothrock, and Melton families, and reports on band director Guy Longest and instrument purchases.
Local notices list John I Blevins returning from Bal Boa Iowa with wife and son Jesse. Families including Stevens boys escorted to Jeffersonville Reformatory for robbery. Various residents visit relatives in Louisville New Albany Corydon Indianapolis and Hardinsburg during the holidays.
At the December 26 1914 meeting Crawford Lodge No 470 F and A M elected H W Mock as Worshipful Master J E Leasor Senior Warden O D Longest Junior Warden A Helmbrecht Secretary J C Longest Treasurer Thomas Cunningham S D Elsie Blevins Tyler John A Blevins Tyler was elected for the ensuing year confirming the lodge leadership for 1915.
The annual roll call will occur at the close of the Sunday evening sermon at 7:00. All church members are urged to attend and answer when called. The message for 1916 emphasizes renewed determination and hopeful, successful work.
Florence C. Jones died December 27 1914 at age 25. Born near Cape Sandy November 29 1889 she married William H. Jones November 25 1908 and had one daughter Ida Eva. She was a faithful member of Pleasant Ridge M E Church. Funeral conducted by Rev R C LaHue December 28 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Burial followed in the cemetery. She leaves a husband an infant daughter and her immediate family.
The husband and family thank neighbors and friends for kindness during the illness and death of Mrs. Wm. H. Jones.
