Governor James P. Goodrich proclaims August sixth to twelfth as Special Enrollment Week in Indiana for the United States Boys Working Reserve. The measure mobilizes 16 to 20 year olds for non military productive labor to support war needs. Parents are assured schooling and employment will not be disrupted and furloughs can be granted upon request. The call urges statewide participation to aid national wartime economy.
The New Albany Tribute warns that the weekly draft drawing brings war closer and sadness to nearly ten million young men and their families. It condemns German brutality and argues the world unites against them as the war looms.
