Lands will be open for entry at 9 a.m. August 22 1917 with settlement and other entry forms beginning at 6 a.m. August 21 1917. Ray E. Genevieve Elizabeth Rhoades born August 11 celebrated her ninth birthday with cake candles and gifts. Prizes went to Helen Hopka and Sophia Clements. Genevieve received many presents. Ed. H. Parkison buys the Couzens Store merchandise and will move the stock to his building and consolidate both stores creating the largest general merchandise stock in the area. A sale will be held soon with exceptional bargains. Lumberjack Regiment Recruited to Full Strength
The 10th Engineers (Forest) known as the lumberjack regiment has been recruited to full strength. The War Department ordered no more candidates listed for service with this unit, though officers continue listing suitable men for a potential second regiment. The noncombat unit will operate in France supplying materials, with Colonel Woodruff leading in Washington where lumbermen and foresters help equip for logging and sawmill work, including stationary and portable mills.

Fish Fry and Wild West Show At Encampment
The fourth annual Fish Fry and wild west show at Encampment will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, August 25 and 26. Two days of races and sports offer substantial prizes, plus fish fry on the 24th, barbecue and dinner on the 29th, with dances, walk carnival, converts, and other attractions. Mr. and Mrs. John C. Peryam of Big Creek spent the weekend at Mrs. Peryamw mother’s home. sisters Delores and Ora Laughlin will vacation at Big Creek with them.
