Forest business receipts from national forests in the recently closed fiscal year topped the 1916 figure by more than $600,000 and reached $3,450,000. Operating costs were about $4,000,000, roughly unchanged from 1916, according to officials.
Officials note that forestry funds mainly stem from a busier timber industry and higher grazing fees, with overall use of forests increasing. Revenue from turpentine sales dropped by about half. Timber business yielded over $1.6 million and livestock grazing over $1.5 million, while water power development permits added to the income.

Rescuers and townspeople attempted revival but he died, likely from cramps after a dinner and cold water. The piece also notes forest land use, grazing receipts, and revenue challenges for national forests.
