Encampment’s Revival Prospects After Copper Mine Decline
Encampment plans a new start as several firms open this summer, drawn by timber, river fisheries, and hunting. The town lies near Hayden National Forest and the Encampment and North Platte rivers offer strong fishing, with smokeless rail ties and lumber from tie drives fueling local industry. The Ferris-Haggarty copper mine closed years ago, but a renewed electric light, water, and telephone system, plus schools and churches, support growth of a several-hundred-person town with diverse businesses.
