FourtY Thousand Acres Filed Near Encampment In Three Years
At a railroad meeting W M Englehart US commissioner reported filings for about 36 500 acres of government land near Encampment in three years with additional filings from Saratoga Rawlins and Cheyenne totaling over 40 000 acres adjacent to Encampment. Most land was taken under the 320 acre Dry Farm act, signaling early settlement and potential railroad revival. The commission hearing on the 5 E railroad abandonment could influence regional development and future rail service. The article notes rapid homesteading east to the Platte river and along the Six Mile country, and urges subscriptions.
