Sugar Beet Tests Support Wyoming Yields
Kels P. Nickel reports two additional sugar beet samples analyzed for sugar content. One from the University of Wyoming in Laramie shows 21.4 percent sugar for No. 1 and 18.8 percent for No. 3, while a Holly Sugar Corp sample from Denver shows 19.2 percent. The tests argue beets in this region match or exceed peers, challenging the belief that high tonnage cannot be produced locally. Will Reid urges repeal of land laws limiting land ownership to 160 acres and restoration of grazing withdrawals to entry, proposing 640 acre openings and citizen residency proof to spur homesteads and entry for veterans.
