Town Hall Fire Destroys Otb Building and Annex

Miss Stella Smith alerted the town to a Tuesday 3am blaze that consumed the Otb Building near the billiard room and bowling alley. Firefighters saved surrounding structures but the main 40 by 60 foot hall with 16 by 36 foot addition was lost with 1500 dollars insured for the building and 1300 for contents. Some claim incendiary origin while others think the fire started from a discarded cigar near a pile of refuse.

Amusement Hall Closed After Fire Loss in Town

Great loss to the town as the amusement hall, the only large venue for dances and public entertainments, is described. The bowling alley and billiard rooms were popular, and Mr. Ott has not yet stated if rebuilding will occur.

Oldest Son of Sheriff Shier Killed in Ranch Accident

Johnnie Shier, fourteen, son of Sheriff Peter Shier of Emmons County, died after a ranch accident in Gayton. He rode into Hazelton for a doctor, got dragged by a horse when the rope around his wrist entangled, causing fatal injuries. Dr. Snyder arrived after the death. The family mourns a manly boy beloved by all who knew him.

Eureka creamery opens with farmer invites to ship cream

The Eureka creamery began operations October 17 and invites Emmons county farmers to ship cream. It promises honest treatment, prompt shipment of cans and payment, with shipping tugs available at all stores and banks in Linton. Rep Wina Butter & Eaa Co led by J. Seitzick, manager, Eureka, S. D. Also notes Wilton Coal promotion and local church and dentist visit announcements.
