District Court Dismissals And Guilty Verdicts In Local Terms

Judge Winchester and Stenographer Tuttle opened the district court Monday after noon. The State of North Dakota vs Fred Maus was dismissed as the defendant showed possible innocence and agreed to pay costs. The State vs John D Flynn yielded a not guilty verdict for assault with a dangerous weapon after a brief deliberation. Andrew Slater’s involvement collapsed and his case was dropped. Patterson’s perjury case against Anton Stanek was also dropped despite Stanek’s insistence he bought the boat. The State vs Aug Benz resulted in a guilty verdict with mercy recommended. a $25 fine was paid and the prisoner discharged. Appeals and other cases, including Wescott’s appeal and several others, moved to the next term. The court adjourned Saturday after a week with the calendar largely cleared.

Through Tourist Car Service to California Inaugurated

A new through Tourist Car Service between East and California via Portland starts from St. Paul and Minneapolis every Wednesday afternoon, via the Northern Pacific Overland. The route includes Sacramento and San Francisco, with berth rates at $6. Reservations may be made through N. P. R. R. Sterling, N. D.

County teachers' examinations set for Winona dates

The next regular examination for county teaching certificates will be held at the superintendent's office in Winona on Friday November 8 1895. The following examination will take place January 10 1896. W B Anpros Supt of Schools Winona October 24 1895.

Russian thistle seed germination report from Fargo college

D K Streeter of Williamsport North Dakota asked about Russian thistle seed germination after frost damaged plants on the Missouri Slope. Professor H L Bouiey at North Dakota Agricultural College Fargo says 5 to 100 percent of seeds could germinate and grow, but tests now are unreliable since seeds are not meant to germinate at this time.

McLain Declines Letter Publishes Voter Card
