Old Settler Judge J W Wescott Dies After Illness

Judge J W Wescott, born January 3 1833 in Canada West, died October 10 after a short illness of about four weeks. He came to the United States in 1854 and to Linton North Dakota in 1883. Funeral held October 14 at his home with Rev J E McKinney officiating. Survived by wife and five children George Moscow Idaho Caroline Corbin Luther Linton Arthur Linton Minnie Keebler and twenty two grandchildren. The family and friends mourn his passing as a peaceful but painful end followed by brief agony.

Cattle Train Passengers Share Seats After Delayed Milwaukee Run

Saturday passengers heading south on the Milwaukee line were redirected to the stock train due to heavy delays. The reroute caused crowded conditions on the cattle train, with cabin space nearly full and little room to stand.

In Bis marck a coroner's inquest determined the rear train engineer acted with carelessness but not intentional neglect. The ruling also faults the railroad for lacking precautions for trains on the same schedule, after the crash near Driscoll killed three stockmen aboard.

Animals Taken Up Near Linton From A Single Owner

Seven horses described as a black mare with gray colt a bay mare a bay horse a sorrel colt two-year-old a black colt and a bay colt were picked up last Saturday. They appear to belong to one owner and are held for charges. Call Gottlieb Litta u at 285 miles northwest of Linton to claim.
