In Duluth and Superior fuel stocks are nearly exhausted with no reserve supplies. Receipts are diverted to local and country distribution as winter approaches, and many Duluth residents report only two thirds of their orders fulfilled. Prices remain high and access is tight as the fuel outlook worsens.

On a Wednesday night last week three youths prowled the Karl Bachmaer property southwest of town. Bachmaer fired at footsteps after hearing a noise, killing Jake Schumacher instantly. Coroner's inquest found death caused by Bachmaer scaring away prowlers. Bachmaer bound over to grand jury set for October 8. This is the fourth homicide since March 4 this year.
Carl Bertheau died last Wednesday evening September 25 from heart disease after 18 months of illness. Funeral services were held at the Episcopal Church and interment was in Linton cemetery. Born in Norway in 1867 he was 51 years old. He married in 1899 in Boderhamn Sweden and had five children four of whom survive Herman Helge Oscar and Prianklin. He operated a jewelry business in Linton for years. A widow four children a stepson August Winroth two brothers in Sweden and a brother in Washington state with an address unknown survive. The community extends sympathy to the bereaved family.

H V Wilmot of the Bismarck district Traffic Agent for the Northern Pacific Railroad visited Linton on Tuesday to promote the movement of winter supplies. W G McAdoo, Director General of the U S Railroad Administration, issued bulletins urging immediate purchase and shipment of winter goods to avoid winter traffic congestion and aid government war needs.
