Local merchants advertise new stock ready for inspection with updated prices and a claim of leadership in good goods and low prices. They offer to accept farm produce such as butter and eggs at the highest market price.
A reminiscence recounts North Dakota irrigation policy debates in Congress, the 3 million dollar fund, and state efforts led by Kirk and Washburn. It notes Palmer and partner, a telegraphers strike, depositors and foreclosure by Deputy Sheriff Griffin, ending with La Shelle becoming a national theatre manager and Palmer publishing at Carrington.
The piece describes a Tribune story about Marquis de Mores in Medora with cowboys plotting to kill him and his wife warning him. The article says the tale is false, noting there were no large fences and the killed man was not a cowboy, calling such stories credulous gossip.
In 1883 Bismarck's newspaper boom saw three dailies the Tribune the Advertiser and the Capital. Palmer and LaShélle owned the Advertiser, which stood on credit to build a plant. As the boom collapsed the Advertiser was bid in by the mortgagee for $900.

Two dynamite blasts at the N P extension near Linton Grade injure workers. Andrew Johnson is badly hurt when shale and earth are thrown after a powder explosion. Doctors treat him. he is transported to Bismarck with skull fracture and burns. recovery hoped. A second, similar incident injures Jack O Neal, with eye irritation from sand. he is also taken to Bismarck for examination.
