The Y M C A fund drive surpassed its $2,000 county quota by raising $2,500 with seven or eight townships yet to report. Citizens of Emme county are praised for loyalty. Attorney Coventry and township volunteers led the effort. Linton contributors include R R Hague First National Bank W J Gabbert and many others.
A speech warns against leaving duties for soldiers. It lists a driver of ammunition wagons, a food supplier, and a surgeon who might shirk tasks. It argues every rank must fulfill its part to keep front-line troops supplied and operations running, with no loafing.
The Me Church invites all not in another Sunday School to attend next Sunday. Evworth League meets at 6 45 am with devotional sessions. Frennie Worshin speaks at 7 20 on The Challenge of the Cross. Evening worship follows. Prayer Meeting is at 7 30 pm Wednesdays. Everyone is welcome, especially your people and farmers. Pastor S. M. Swaney signs.
Last Friday a speeding car struck the 7 year old daughter of S. Schlosser eight miles east of town as she played near the Kuntz school house. She suffered a broken leg and other bruises. the driver fled the scene and could not be identified. The community condemns the hit and run and calls for the culprit to be found and held accountable.
The Record publishes Emmons County 1916 delinquent real estate taxes. Lands advertised will be sold for taxes by the county auditor on December 11. The bid with the lowest interest rate wins the tax title, the maximum rate being 12 percent. Owners have three years to redeem from the tax title holder. Unbid tracts revert to the county and carry the maximum interest.
In Grand Forks on November 22 a North Dakota rabbit hunt opened in Calvin district. The Calvin village split into north and south halves for the contest run on a patristic basis. The daylong hunt netted a neat sum for the Red Cross with the winning side paying 25 cents per man and the losing side 50 cents per loan to the rocery.
An unidentified airship reportedly circled Dawson last Thursday evening around 7:30, viewed by Orrin Baertsch and others near the depot. Witnesses heard a hum and saw the craft pass from east to northwest, though its origin and destination remain unknown per Dawson Press.
At a Wednesday night court house meeting a Local Branch Chapter was formed with officers Frances Petrie secretary Hauge treasurer and Mrs A R Corwine chairman. Women knit for soldiers and weekly meetings planned. Thirty nine Christmas packages were sent to soldiers in France plus 27 from Hazelton and 15 from Omio. Dr Hogue supervised packing and Mrs Remington spoke to local members about Red Cross work and requirements.

Prof. Alfred E. Koenig of the University of Minnesota spoke on Prussianism in the court rooms last Wednesday night to a good sized audience. He described his family’s suffering under the Kaiser regime and then left for Fargo to give one or two more talks.
A.J. Hunter, president of the First National Bank of Grand Forks, will meet state officials in Bismarck on November 24 with North Dakota Bankers Association members to discuss seed grain supply for western farmers. They consider financing options for next spring and possible grain bonds to assist farmers who suffered in the 1917 crop crisis.
Grand Representative R L Best of the Knights of Pythias in Bis marck met local Knights in Linton to discuss a War Relief Commission. They pledged to raise 500000 for cantonment buildings entertainment and member comfort nationwide. North Dakota lodge officials said they would exceed their allotment. The order has wartime access to cantonments with YMCA permissions.
The proclamation designates November 29 as a day of thanksgiving and prayer. It calls Americans to cease ordinary work, offer thanks to God, and reflect on national unity, liberty, and the duties of service amid world war. Signed by Woodrow Wilson and Secretary of State Robert Lansing in Washington D.C. on November 7, 1917.
A roan cow about three years old and weighing around 900 pounds with a dew lap mark is reported as a stray. Finder asks owners to notify Attorney Coventry.
