The Fraternal News, volume 1 number 1, debuts in Bismarck, edited by R. D. Hoskins, and focuses on state fraternal societies. It notes a Bureau of enforce ment league booze experts at conventions and praises the magazine’s editing and typography.
The Fargo Argus is sold to Messrs Robinson Warnock and Hoskins. Irons and Gage buy the Commonwealth to run as a republican morning paper. The Record nears its teens while Emmons county readers sustain the paper with subscriptions as a railroad era approaches.
June 9 convention to assemble delegates from Northwest and Manitoba locals. The International Union dominates most U S and Canadian journeyman printers. Invitations sent to printers and publishers in the region. Controversy surrounds Burleigh county delegation remarks and local editor’s response.

A boy named Willie Ashton aged fifteen from Fountain Minnesota left home last harvest and was headed toward North Dakota seeking work. Description notes a slender five foot three inch youth with large head pronounced forehead brown hair and a distinctive pen behind the ear. Family members Mr Fran E Ashton Fountain MN and Mrs J Ashton Washington MN request contact with any information and North Dakota papers are asked to copy.
Public auction at the Williamsport courthouse on June 6 1896 to sell permits for cutting hay on school and state lands for cash. Minimum bid for each quarter section is $2.50. Democrats of Emmons county meet at Williamsport on May 30 1896 at 2 oclock p m to elect six delegates to the state convention in Jamestown on June 4 1806 by order of committees W L Yeater chairman
