Local notes report the Soo train on time, Mrs Emma Cotton’s winter visit in Mason City, farm work in progress, and moves of residents including B G McElroy and Emanuel Reichert. A basket social raised 76.50 for cemetery fencing while accidents included John Melander’s belt injury and Billy Hull’s head wound from a broken plow tongue.

Prominent clergyman Rev Fr Peter Wollatk will return to conduct Catholic services. Postmaster Geil reports installation of new section boxes and call boxes this morning. A L Geil bought Briggle’s west business lot and plans a substantial building. C L Merrick visited to discuss a new lumber yard with Manager Betzer. erection of an office building expected to start Monday by contractors.

Deep breaking yields flax and macaroni wheat in same and following year

J J Harris of Wells county notes deep breaking and thorough disk or buckset farming to maximize flax and macaroni wheat. He says breaking can start after frost and run to flax seeding, with 100 acres producing about 1000 bushels flax and 2500 bushels wheat the next year. Shallow breaking harms yields.
