Elder Brown’s absence dampened a large Sabbath attendance as Winny urges celebration and grounds beautification for children and the territory’s indigent. The note closes with a religious ode and a signature from Givpert A Piencr dated March 15, 1800s.
March 22 update notes arrival of seeding season as weather stays mild. A daughter born March 19 to Mr and Mrs Harvey Allensworth. mother and child thriving. County Treasurer Stevenson reports three cows lost this spring though overall stock is healthy. Tommy Sanders plans butter business expansion this summer with six cows already producing. Dugald Campbell says mild winter reduced hay feeding, sheep in good condition.
J. W. Parker, a Bismarck druggist, advertises blue vitriol for cleaning wheat at a quarter less than other dealers. He touts lower prices with the slogan Money saved is money made and invites customers to compare prices to be convinced.
A Northwestern Railway circular urges Dakota farmers to clean seed wheat with blue-stone copper sulfate. Horace Davis, a major Pacific Slope miller, reports dramatic reductions in smut after treating seed, recommending six pounds per ton. The method involves draining seed on boards, using a trough, and repeatedly turning bags to ensure even wetting.
J W Parken, Druggist, Dakota Block, Bismarck offers chemically pure blue vitriol at a lower price than rival dealers. This advertise notice highlights cost savings and location for customers seeking the chemical.
Governor Pierce proclaims April 24 as Arbor Day a general holiday with state offices closed and official business suspended. Elk Point correspondent recounts the organic law of Dakota passed in February and March 186?, Lincoln signing it, and twenty five years of territorial life. First governor William Jayne, later seven governors Faulk, Edmunds, Pennington, Burbank, Ordway, Pierce, and Howard. Mr Archie Dockstader of Burleigh county and Miss Ada Hall of Grand Forks wed at the Pacific Hotel on March 16 with Rev P Clare officiating. The couple depart today for their home eighteen miles southeast of Bismarck amid friends wishes.
