Grant remembered as national hero in mourning essay

Through the dark valley the nation mourns General Grant who died Friday at 8 o’clock. Heavy rain and crops rise in Glencos region

Glencos reports a very heavy rain Friday night. Harvey Allensworth will begin harvesting soon. In Winona and Glanavon townships crops look immense with estimates of about 60 bushels per acre in Glanavon. Local land contests, new stores, road improvements, and incoming settlers fill the correspondence from July.

Friday Evening Party At Slubert Residence

Friday evening a party hosted by Mr. John Slubert at the Roker and Chapman homes was dampened by sudden heavy rain delaying guests. The event moved to Saturday with a larger crowd at the Bussey place enjoying music and fellowship until midnight, leaving attendees grateful to the hosts for a pleasant neighborhood gathering.

The Bismarck Land Officers rule that failure to establish residence equals abandonment after residence. Visits or excursions do not prove residence. A ten day October visit cannot defeat a contest, and six month gaps are not enough for actual residence. Good faith or poverty does not excuse residence when entry was made knowing the difficulties.

Stolen mare and horse reported in Spiritwood district
