An Italian correspondent reports that Alpine troops rely on kitchens far below the front lines. Aerial tramways deliver thermally prepared meals to soldiers 1200 feet up, with fireless cookers finishing cooking en route. Large portions of meat and vegetable stews are prepared at the timber line and then carried aloft in thermos-like vessels to ensure hot, palatable food despite the cold and lack of fires.
