Death of Edgar A Knowles in Velva at seventeen

Edgar A Knowles son of Mr and Mrs Gideon Knowles died Tuesday morning after a brief illness due to tonsillitis measles and a cold. Born in Emmons county seventeen years ago he moved to Velva with his parents in 1899. A quiet industrious boy he held entrusted duties and was greatly beloved. Funeral held Tuesday at 10 am at M E church with Rev Brown delivering the sermon. Interment in Velva cemetery. The Knowles family were early settlers in Glanavon school district and mourn many friends in the community.

Civil Service Examinations for Railway Mail Clerk

The United States Civil Service Commission will hold an examination on March 10, 1903 at Bismarck Fargo Grand Forks and Pembina for the railway mail clerk position in North Dakota. Applicants must be 18 to 35, at least five feet six inches tall and weigh not less than 135 pounds, with no physical defects. Eligibles may be certified to substitute clerks in the railway mail service. Open to all US citizens meeting requirements. Apply to the Civil Service Commission in Washington for form 304. Nearby notice: Harry Forsyth, formerly of Braddock, pleaded guilty to grand larceny in Minneapolis and was sentenced to five years.
