Latin names for stations and a dog theft tale
The article ponders Latinizing stations while recounting a Linton man accused of annexing a dog from a sawbones. It notes Napoleon origins, a St Louis fair temple plan, and praises Col. Thompson in Dakota territory. It also memorializes John A. Stovell of Bismarck, a prominent lawyer and early political figure.

Missouri Slope shifts to corn fodder as hay alternative
The Missouri Slope area pivots from prairie hay to corn fodder production. Farmers plant dent corn varieties such as White Flint and Campbell County Dent, finding fodder yields high with new corn-bindings. Despite a poor June start, corn looks set for a robust season, reinforcing the region’s shift toward corn farming.

Corn and hogs as a better bet than wheat markets
The piece discusses corn growing in the Missouri Slope and argues it may pay more to raise corn and hogs than to ship fifty-cent wheat. It notes absence of hog cholera, critiques Iowa prohibition politics, references Cummins’ stance, and cites market prices with wheat around parity to other grains along with rising oats, barley, and rye prices. It also mentions a death notice for Bert Petrie.
