The North Dakota Sunday School Association will convene in Fargo October 11 to 13 with C A Armstrong as secretary announcing headquarters at the Presbyterian church and sessions across four Fargo churches. M N Hatcher of Fargo is general chairman and five special speakers will attend.
Montana Miles City workers report an uptick in free rides on freight trains with many women seen in windows or side doors of pulled cars. Hundreds of men also ride for free as guests of railroads, and the practice persists amid limited enforcement.
North Dakota reports an 8 percent state wheat yield average with total output near 60 million bushels, below federal estimates, fromSecretary J A Dunn at Minot's spring wheat league. Additional items include bridge pageant plans for Mandan and local incidents across towns from Amidon to Devils Lake and Fargo.
Edward J. Lynch former internal revenue collector in St. Paul was found in a row boat on the Chagrin River near Gates Mill. A bullet through the heart and absence of a weapon suggest murder or suicide but officials hold doubts. Lynch, active in Minnesota Democratic politics for forty years, had planned to return to St Paul with his wife after visiting daughter and son-in-law since mid June.
Minneapolis police killed John Hawkins, identified as a bandit in a Saturday motor bus hold up, after he fired on detectives and leaped from a police car at Fifth Street and Nicollet Avenue. Patrolman Alfred W. Averback shot him dead. Two bystanders were wounded as crowds panicked.
