Five Drown Near Mandan in Missouri River Flood
Five traveling men perished east of Mandan in the Missouri River flood while attempting an Easter crossing by rowboat. Only Representative Lang survived after being rescued in a frail boat as winds and current sank the craft.

A. L. Portz, formerly in Hazelton's drug trade, has purchased the entire interests, stock, and goodwill of E. H. Smith's furniture business in Linton. The deal closed last week after Portz spent time evaluating the business. Portz brings furniture experience from H. C. Flint in Jamestown and also serves as undertaker and embalmer. He plans a brief period to learn the trade and invites patrons to his store.

Helgeson Dead at Capital After Illness
Congressman H. T. Helgeson of North Dakota died in Washington Tuesday from appendicitis after an operation two weeks earlier. He missed the House organization and did not vote on the war resolution. First elected to Congress in 1910, he had served since March 4, 1911 for North Dakota’s First district.
