Disastrous M. & St. L. Wreck Near Rockwell
A catastrophic M. & St. L. wreck occurred two miles south of Rockwell, twelve miles south of Mason City, Saturday about 12:30. One man was killed. Harry Blood was badly injured with a broken collar bone. William Curran escaped. Train hauled eight cars of freight including apples and kerosene. oil ignited the wreck, flames raged for hours, two days to clear. Initial report of seventeen tramps aboard proved false.

Estherville Brakeman Shot on Burlington Freight
Estherville remembers a Burlington freight brakeman A D Campbell was accidentally shot in the neck as a fellow brakeman loading a revolver discharged. The train neared Sioux City when the bullet pierced a caboose wall and struck Campbell near the jaw, with the wound not deemed serious though near the spinal cord. He was taken to hospital.

Rain Into Horse With Auto Near Town
William Bubhacker drove his car into a horse on the road north of town Sunday evening injuring the animal and causing it to be killed after the radiator and lamps were damaged. The horse owners settled all damages, and it was noted they were pasturing horses on the public highway in violation of law.

Farmer C N Lewis Dies in Embankment Accident
C N Lewis of Mapleton Iowa was crushed to death when his automobile dropped seven feet into a roadside embankment along the Sioux City and Dresden road northwest of Bronson. His son Gordon Lewis, the driver, was only slightly injured. Lewis died about fifteen minutes after the accident occurred shortly after o'clock.

Baby Falls From Second Story Window Screen
The Penton Reporter reports a Prank Yates infant rolled from an upstairs bed as a window screen not fastened or swinging gave way. The child fell eleven feet to the ground, was found unconscious, then recovered and crawled about, with no bones broken according to the attending doctor.

Yellow Ochre Found On Fort Dodge Farm
A large deposit of yellow ochre has been discovered on the Joseph Savage farm a mile and a half south of Fort Dodge. The mineral, used in cheap paint, faced a supply shortage due to overseas conflict. French ochre priced at $20 per ton in transportation.

Mason City Tragedy Rival Fires and Murder Reported
Mason City reports a woman badly burned when kerosene started a blaze. In Ellsworth Minnesota, Majestic theater manager Charles Dillehay was found murdered and robbed on Sept 23. Authorities say a struggle occurred and a weapon caused fatal injuries. $300 was taken. A Majestic tango is for sale from Mrs. Ann Rutledge in Emmetsburg.

Funeral of George W McDonald at Ruthven Thursday
George W McDonald died at Ruthven Iowa September 21 1915 aged 76. He was born March 14 1839 in York county Pennsylvania and lived in Maryland Ohio Iowa and Missouri before settling in Ruthven. The funeral was held at his Ruthven residence officiated by Rev Walker and Rev Thompkins with business houses closed in mourning. Burial followed in Ruthven cemetery. He married Lizzie Steece of Wellston Ohio and they had no children. He built a prosperous Ruthven general store and was esteemed by patrons and neighbors.
